Our web-design philosophy is this: an effective website is one that is both quick and easy to use for all viewers.
To this end, websites we construct are user-friendly, professionally produced and technically robust.

What do you know about web design?
We have good understanding of web-design issues, having worked with the Internet in various capacities since 1995, including:
- Teaching web design and coding
- Constructing websites for clients
- Running the Editorial department of a major contemporary art dotcom
Our background in editorial work ensures that copy check all text on our sites.
Do your websites load quickly?
While there are many factors determining download speed, some of which are outside the designer's control, there are things that can be done. Here's what we do:
- We write the HTML and CSS code directly in a text editor (BBEdit), and do not use graphical WYSIWYG editors (such as DreamWeaver, GoLive, PageMill, etc.). This ensures that all our code is clean and efficient, allowing the fastest possible loading times.
- We compress all image files as much as possible while ensuring that no image quality is lost.
- We try to avoid animation technologies that require unused content to load before viewers can see the information that they are interested in.
Do your websites work on all computers?
These are the steps we take to ensure that as broad an audience as possible can enjoy our websites:
- We check our websites on the Worldwide Web Consortium's own HTML validator, ensuring that our coding is error-free and conforms to official HTML standards.
- We test our websites in multiple web browsers - Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc. - and on both Mac and PC platforms.
- We test our websites for backwards-compatibility with older versions of these web browsers.
- Our websites don't require additional plug-ins because they are produced using only standard HTML and CSS code rather than, for example, Flash movies.
Websites should be search-engine friendly from the ground up; that is, the design should make the website's content accessible to search engines rather than opaque. We structure the content of our websites logically, making it accessible to the automated web crawlers that search engines send out. This is also why we avoid presenting the content with Flash movie animations, because this makes the content opaque to search engines.
